Newly industrialized countries like China and India can provide products and know-how to oil exporting countries at better terms than the US and European countries and without the geopolitical lecturing. But there is no free lunch, as the developed countries will fight to maintain their dominant position with regard to hydrocarbon supply, especially in this Peak Oil era. August 28, 2007 -- The tentative introduction of solar water heaters in Trinidad and Tobago, years after such systems have been commonplace in nearby Barbados, reflects the slowly dawning realization that even hydrocarbon exporting countries need to develop renewable enrgy resources. This is a positiion I have championed in Peak Oil Paradigm Shift.(Page 98) "Producing countries should strive to conserve hydrocarbons for later (and more profitable) sale as the scarcity intensifies. The economic wisdom of such current policies as conveeting natural gas either directly or via electricity to steel and aluminium in smelters should be challenged; especiallt when the energy for such industries could be much more sensibly supplied by hydroelectric power or biomass sources such as Russia's use offast growing eucalyptusto ptoduce charcoal for some of their smelters." The reality of the much more efficient conversion of sunlight to sucrose in tropical sugarcane versus temperate corn will be increasingly felt as the global need for bio-fuels rises. The less developed "Global South" has the climatic advantage in the quest for a sustainable energy model. Brazil's success or failure will have serious consequences for other countries trying to cash in on their biofuel potential e.g. Malaysia's palm oil-biodisesel ventures. The coming post-Peak Oil period goes by many names and author Michael Klare's article declaring the End of "Easy Oil' is one contender. It is becoming increasingly clear that Peak Oil's imminence is producing such clear signs that denial is becoming increasingly difficult. Geopolitical upheaval is certain as the scramble for hydrocarbon resources gets deadly serious. Read the whole article at: http://www.alternet.org/story/60086 |

You know that Peak Oil is here when investors start taking bets, otherwise called investments, that it is really happening. Angel Research Group in the US is one of many organisations touting investment strategies to profit from the coming energy shortage. The company is hosting a 3 day PROFIT FROM THE PEAK seminar in September. The circular to investors states… "The End of Cheap Oil... and the Coming $20 Trillion Investment Bonanza Our (Angel Fire) editors have been warning about the effects of Peak Oil for years. But now we've reached a critical juncture--so critical that I've asked each of our editors to join me at an urgent, invitation-only meeting this September. At this special meeting, no fewer than eight experts will lay out the facts about the global energy crisis. And they'll reveal a minimum of 21 ways to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime scenario . . ." If you want details of the seminar go to: http://www.angelnexus.com/o/web/2312 |
