Normally when talk of Global Warming's possible negative effects come up, the picture is of Bangladeshis and South Sea Islanders being flooded by rising sea levels or some other Third World society having to adjust. Now however, the American Southeast and Southwest, large parts of Mexico, Europe and Australia are in grip of droughts so fierce that they are being viewed as 500-year events. People should be asking if this is connected to the types of Climate Change being predicted by those who think than mankind's activity is messing with the weather. Whiskey & Gunpowder September 24, 2007 As a loyal Whiskey & Gunpowder reader and personal friend of Byron King, I must say that not only do I subscribe to the Peak Oil theory, I am experiencing it first hand. As I write this, I am only a few short minutes from the border of Russia at my home in Estonia. Yes, Estonia, the small Baltic country with the big heart and the taxes to match it. |

CARACAS , Venezuela , February 7, 2007 -- With the controversy continuing to rage over the causes of climate change, one of the major oil producers is going green. That's according to Hugo Chavez, President of the oil rich - and wealthy - Venezuela who has urged the world to cutback on oil use to fight global warming and said his country would lead by example. Speaking on the heels of the Fourth Assessment Report by the Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) which has now said that climate change is a certainty and that it is caused by human activity, Chavez called on fellow Venezuelans to use public transport more in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from their vehicles. Carbon dioxide is a leading cause of global warming said the IPCC. Global warming would melt the world's ice-caps, lead to sea level rise, flooding coastal states and fuel erratic and severe weather systems worldwide. |
